Indian Clothing

Indian Clothing is just as beautiful as it is representative of cultural identity. However, Indians are not the only ones wearing these beautiful fashions. For example, Tunics are becoming trendier amongst women of many cultures as they can be easily dressed up or down depending on what they’re worn with. The finest in Indian fashion is most evident at a traditional wedding.

Indian weddings symbolize the coming together of two families in addition to the joining of bride and groom. Typical Muslim celebrations start a few nights before the actual wedding, usually in the form of a mehndi party. Mostly worn at weddings, Mehndi or henna is a traditional form of body art applied to the bride’s hands and feet in intricate designs. During this time men are also decorated with henna designs that are applied to their fingertips.

The actual ceremonies themselves can vary from a very small affair to an extravagant event. More and more ceremonies, especially in North America, are adopting Western traditions into the wedding service ranging from men wearing a tux or a suit to the recent introduction of wedding cakes. Just 15 years ago, a wedding cake was almost unheard of!

Regardless of the type of ceremony, traditional Indian Fashion is still worn during the festivities. The bride is generally the most elegantly dressed in a bridal saree made with the finest material and lots of artistic adornments. In Pakistan the bride will generally wear lehnga choli. These beautiful pieces consist of a long, elegant skirt with matching top accented with a stole. Female attendants in many countries also wear this fashion. Due to gaining popularity, this style is becoming more and more popular with the younger generation due to their timeless beauty.
