My daughter – Kat – has been creating and editing films for a couple of years now. She really enjoys it and wants to make it her career. I’m one of her biggest fans of course! Yes, you’re typical mom probably, but honestly; I look forward to seeing where this takes her and hope her dreams of a career doing this come to light. I think it’s so important in life to be able to love your work! I love what I do and I hope my kids can say that 5, 10 and 20 years from now too!

Kat recently began a series called “What would you do?”. The series has a trailer and two episodes so far. I’ve included the trailer for episode 2 below. It’s kind of scary, so be warned! Currently, she’s wrapping up the editing work on the full version of Episode 1 about a Killer Bear. It’s eerie and a bit funny all at the same time and I love the bloopers added at the end. I will post that when it comes available. For now though, take a look at the series trailer and intro to episode 2. You can subscribe to Kat’s work on youtube here. Thanks for your support! May all your dreams come true too!!

I just received the canvas print I ordered through UPrinting. It’s amazing! I’ve never had photos processed to canvas before and I’m so impressed with the results! The canvas came securely rolled up within a protective sheet of paper, inside a heavy poster tube. When I initially unrolled the art, I was immediately impressed with it’s size. I knew what to expect from the dimensions, examples and descriptive information on the website, however, I was still in awe. I’m in the process of getting it framed now, otherwise I would show you. You would need to see and feel this up close to truly appreciate it’s quality and detail. The thickness and texture of the canvas does not take away at all from the clarity of the image at all. I think that this is just a beautiful way to print your special memories. I’m very happy with this printing company and because they keep their prices low; I definitely plan to go back to them again. How about a gift idea for the upcoming holiday season? Your favorite family photo on canvas would be a wonderful gift to a loved one.. cherished for years to come.

If you weren’t familiar with UPrinting before now; here’s a bit of background. UPrinting.com is a leading online printing company that provides high quality printing at the most affordable prices. For over 25 years, UPrinting has been a trusted leader in online printing, featuring its signature easy-to-use website and the famous Free File Review, a complimentary proofing service which requires no upfront payment. This proofing service they provide was something else that initially impressed me as well. After uploading my photo, it was just a short time (the same day) that I received notification that the proof was available to view online. I got the final say as far as the approval went. It looked great, so I marked it as approved and from there it was ready for creation to canvas! It was really pretty easy (for me). The process also makes me want to dust off my camera and do some more photography! hehe.. Happy printing!!

You may be familiar with the fable that involves a farmer dangling a carrot in front of a donkey in order to motivate the donkey to work. When you work from home, there isn’t anyone standing over your shoulder to motivate you. You are the boss and the employee. You have to motivate yourself to get the work done.

To find your motivation, think about why you wanted to work from home in the first place. Perhaps you wanted to spend more time with your family or maybe you needed a flexible schedule. Take some time and think about your “why”. Write it down and keep the paper near your work space. Whenever you start to doubt your decision, read over your “why”; you will find instant motivation.

Working from home can be lonesome, especially if you are used to working in a large corporate environment and having lots of interaction with co-workers. The internet can be a great place to network with other people working from home. You can meet other people that work from home through message boards and forums.

Once you meet a few like-minded people, form an accountability group with each other. You can meet weekly in a chat room or on a conference call and discuss your goals, the things you achieved, and the things you didn’t. You can offer each other congratulations when things are going great and solutions when problems come up. You can also offer each other weekly challenges; and that friendly competition can offer some great motivation.

Just because you don’t have anyone to dangle carrots in front of you doesn’t mean you can’t do it for yourself. Take the time to write out some goals and choose some appropriate rewards for each one. Once you have achieved the goal, you can have the reward. This can be as simple as giving yourself a night off from cooking and ordering in pizza once you have written and submitted your first press release.

If you choose, you can get creative and write out your goals on poster board and paste pictures of the rewards next to them. This will be a constant visual reminder of what you need to achieve, and seeing the rewards attached to them will be a great motivator. Plus, anyone else who sees this will be able to keep track of your progress. They will know if you are accomplishing your goals and that can also serve as a source of motivation.

Whether or not you choose to put them on a poster board, you should have a way to keep track of your progress. Whenever you feel stressed or unmotivated, take a look back at all the things you have accomplished. You will remember the struggles you went through and the feeling of joy as you finished what you set out to accomplish. This is a great confidence booster, and will leave you feeling ready to tackle your next goal.

I wasn’t sure what to expect on the set of The Closer, but it was really so much fun! My family and I had such a blast meeting Greg LaVoi, who played host that day, showing us around the set at Raleigh Studios, introducing us to cast, crew, his adorable “Stella” cutie and his beautiful vintage Irene collection. Above is a photo they took at the studio for us (L-R: My husband, myself, my daughter, Kyra Sedgwick and my son). Aside from the picture taking, Kyra, who plays “Brenda” on The Closer, took a few moments between takes to stop and talk to each of us. She is so sweet. She asked the ages of my two kids (21 & 18) and what they’re plans were (college). It turns out, she has two kids (boy/girl) the exact same ages as mine. That’s pretty cool. Greg told us that hubby Kevin and the kids are in town visiting Kyra (NY is home) but they weren’t at the studio at the time. We enjoyed meeting some of the other cast and watching them film. That’s a first for me and it was so interesting!

Here are some photos I took from our time at the studio. Click the thumbnails to see a much larger version of each photo. At the bottom of each (large) photo, there is a description of who/what/where. For more photos of the Designs by Irene Lentz in particular, see my post at the Irene site.
Greg generously extended an invitation to visit him at the studio where he currently designs for Kyra Sedgwick and other top talents. Unlike Greg and my grand-aunt Irene Lentz – who designed for some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities and motion pictures of the classic Hollywood era; I’m pretty far removed from the fashion world. My personal relationship with fashion consists of making sure my clothes match and above all – are comfy! However; I do greatly admire and respect the work of Irene and look forward to seeing the collection of vintage Irene suits and dresses Greg has collected at the studio. How fun!

I was reviewing my Amazon purchases going back almost 10 years. The collection is quite eclectic. No surprise there! I reviewed my purchases of assorted CD’s, DVD’s and Books, reminisced and attempted to conjure up the “Ah Ha!” moment I had when finding each special item. Over the years; some purchases were gifts, but the majority of the purchases were made for moi. I haven’t purchased too much though. My “collection” currently consists of 46 items, since January 2001. That’s not too much. I am on a budget after all. That’s one of the reasons why I look to Amazon when I need something. I can usually find it cheap. =)

Probably the item that’s seen the most use since it’s purchase is my David gray music purchase. A few of my purchases I’ve completely forgot about and ended up lost somehow, somewhere. A few items have found there way to the $1 section of past garage sales too. Oh well, that’s the typical life cycle of Books,CD’s,and DVD’s.The strongest remain. Take a look at my almost ten year collection if you’d like… and have a great day!

I debated with myself on whether or not I wanted to try smoked oysters. After an episode of Dr. Oz where “Wellness Warrior” Bonnie Matthews boasted about the taste, high protein, low calorie benefits of smoked oysters; my curiosity was piqued. As I normally do when something interests me; I went online for further research on the topic of smoked oysters. Not only are they high in protein and low in calories, but they are low in fat and low in cholesterol. They rich in iron, calcium and vitamin A, and are good for the skin and the vision.

I gave up meat in 2009 and though I consider myself a pescetarian (or pesco-vegetarian); my days of eating fish have become fewer and farther between. Still, I really even wasn’t sure if oysters were considered a “fish”, so I needed to learn that too. Between my husband’s knowledge and the Internet, I got my answers. Oysters are molluscs, usually called “shellfish” and come from the invertebrate family.. basically, animals without a backbone.

With that knowledge behind me, and because the idea of a high protein, low calorie food is something I need more of in my diet; I decided to go for it and try smoked oysters. I knew, from reading, to expect some funny looking, oddly textured food. I can get over that if they taste okay (I told myself..). Upon pulling off the lid of the little can, I smelled a familiar and a not-unappealing smokey scent and popped one in my mouth. The texture reminded me of mushrooms (which I have no problems with) and the taste was not bad at all.. even, actually, kind of good.

So, They don’t look real good, but they taste just fine. Though I gave them the thumbs-up (I did eat the whole can) because the experience was a positive one; I don’t think I’ll indulge in them as often as Bonnie does. I was curious, I tried it and now I know.

Almonds and Greek yogurt make a good high-protein snack too and are a little easier on the eyes. =)
