My Amazon media collection

I was reviewing my Amazon purchases going back almost 10 years. The collection is quite eclectic. No surprise there! I reviewed my purchases of assorted CD’s, DVD’s and Books, reminisced and attempted to conjure up the “Ah Ha!” moment I had when finding each special item. Over the years; some purchases were gifts, but the majority of the purchases were made for moi. I haven’t purchased too much though. My “collection” currently consists of 46 items, since January 2001. That’s not too much. I am on a budget after all. That’s one of the reasons why I look to Amazon when I need something. I can usually find it cheap. =)

Probably the item that’s seen the most use since it’s purchase is my David gray music purchase. A few of my purchases I’ve completely forgot about and ended up lost somehow, somewhere. A few items have found there way to the $1 section of past garage sales too. Oh well, that’s the typical life cycle of Books,CD’s,and DVD’s.The strongest remain. Smoked Oysters

I debated with myself on whether or not I wanted to try smoked oysters. After an episode of Dr. Oz where “Wellness Warrior” Bonnie Matthews boasted about the taste, high protein, low calorie benefits of smoked oysters; my curiosity was piqued. As I normally do when something interests me; I went online for further research on the topic of smoked oysters. Not only are they high in protein and low in calories, but they are low in fat and low in cholesterol. They rich in iron, calcium and vitamin A, and are good for the skin and the vision.

I gave up meat in 2009 and though I consider myself a pescetarian (or pesco-vegetarian); my days of eating fish have become fewer and farther between. Still, I really even wasn’t sure if oysters were considered a “fish”, so I needed to learn that too. Between my husband’s knowledge and the Internet, I got my answers. Oysters are molluscs, usually called “shellfish” and come from the invertebrate family.. basically, animals without a backbone.

With that knowledge behind me, and because the idea of a high protein, low calorie food is something I need more of in my diet; I decided to go for it and try smoked oysters. I knew, from reading, to expect some funny looking, oddly textured food. I can get over that if they taste okay (I told myself..). Upon pulling off the lid of the little can, I smelled a familiar and a not-unappealing smokey scent and popped one in my mouth. The texture reminded me of mushrooms (which I have no problems with) and the taste was not bad at all.. even, actually, kind of good.

So, They don’t look real good, but they taste just fine. Though I gave them the thumbs-up (I did eat the whole can) because the experience was a positive one; I don’t think I’ll indulge in them as often as Bonnie does. I was curious, I tried it and now I know.

Almonds and Greek yogurt make a good high-protein snack too and are a little easier on the eyes. =)

This looks like a cute movie. Despicable Me, by Universal Pictures and starring Steve Carell, comes out in theaters July 9th.

I was watching a couple of the trailers and came across a minion game online. Create your very own minion, share online and save in the minion gallery for others to view. There are more games at the despicable.me website and at Neopets.

I named her prudence. Suits her, don’t you think? She’s adorable and she’s “Minion of the Month” too. =)

Facebook Hotel City Game

This is the first game I started with on Facebook. Where else could I manage my own hotel?! In the beginning, I was frantically building and decorating as much as I could. Now I enjoy the game at a more leisurely pace, letting the coins roll in and just sprucing things up here and there with luxury items. Hotel City recently added “Night” and “New York” backgrounds, which I do not have access to yet, but hope to soon.

Facebook Country Story Game

I would love to have crops and trees like the ones I have *virtually* on Country Story. That’s all part of the fun. So, each day, I tend to them, harvest and collect coins and I just recently adopted these cute dogs. They help collect the stones and logs left lying around my field. Cute, aren’t they?

Facebook Cafe World Game

Maybe it’s because I’m not much of a cook in realty, but having a successful virtual cafe has turned out kind of fun. I was very skeptical of this game when I started it and figured I wouldn’t last long in it.. after all, I really don’t like spending time cooking much of anything. I have no problem with the eating part however. I did enjoy designing this little place though, and I like the challenge of keeping it humming with food and visitors.

Facebook Happy Island Game

This game is still a little “iffy” for me. I’m not sure if I’ll stick with it. So far though, I’ve filled up my virtual island up fairly well, but game is a little boring and I really don’t spend more than probably 2 minutes on it each visit (once or twice a day). We’ll see..

Facebook Hello City Game

What a silly game! I don’t know why I play it other than it rates high on my “cuteness” scale. So, I spent a few days building this little city, but none of my friends play the game, so there’s not much more I can do from here other wave hello to the virtual residents once a day. It looks and feels a bit too much like a pre-school game and I really don’t see myself giving it much more of my time.

Facebook Frontier Ville Game

This game is fun and addicting. I don’t mind spending a few extra minutes on this one and a lot of my friends play it which makes it even more interesting. The most time consuming part of the game is the giving and collecting of gifts because it just doesn’t load very quickly (like a lot of apps), but there’s always quite a bit to do here, which keeps it entertaining.. animals to feed, trees and crops to harvest, buildings to build, snakes to whack, bears to scare, grass and wildflowers to clear, adventures in the Buffalo Range, the Oregon Trail, oh ya.. and a frontier town to build. I have a lot of work to do. But, it’s looking good so far, huh?

Facebook Treetopia Game

I don’t know about this one yet.. I haven’t made up my mind if I like it or not. It’s kind of cute and it has a lot going for it with all the little side quests you can do and charms you can earn, killer plants to tackle and continually trying to keep the villagers happy. I will play it a bit longer and see how it develops.

Facebook Tiki Farm Game

I like the relaxing Hawaiian style music that plays in the background, hehe.. and I though I’ve only been playing this one for a few days, I might just enjoy filling up this virtual island of mine and seeing where it leads. It’s a relaxing game.

Facebook Farm Ville Game

I just started this game and apparently I have a long ways to go because I’ve seen some of my friends’ farms and they are amazing looking! I really hadn’t intended on doing another farm game (because I already have a my Country Story that I’m happy with), but I got this huge mega drink at 7-11 one day with my daughter and it had a “Buy Earn Play” code on it to redeem, so I did.. and It game me a Farm Ville gift. See it? It’s that cute little cow jumping off the diving board into the pool. Well, after that, I had to add some decorations and such. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with this game however. I feel like I have one or two too-many right now. =)

Yay! I just got an email confirmation of a prize win online! The contest was a matching/memory game I played back in March, at the website – win-with-loacker.com. I wanted to share my new desktop wallpaper with you. Pretty, isn’t it? It’s a photo by John Carey – fiftyfootshadows.net. It’s usually one of John’s newest photos that decorate at least one of my home computers. I’m a big fan of his photography.

He just posted some new spring photos. They are beautiful. Check out “A Taste of Spring” to see all of them. He makes them available for us to enjoy for personal use, as wallpaper, and the zip file includes versions for mac, ipad and iphone users also.

I don’t usually share my own recipes, but I needed to pull this together today as a special request for work. It’s a quality recipe that others may actually enjoy, so I thought I’d post it here too. Last year, I gave up all meat. (Yay!) Since I don’t cook it anymore, my family sees less of it as well. They pretty much only eat meat if they’ve bought and prepared it themselves.. so like I said – they eat quite a bit less of it. I’m also trying to include more fiber and vegetables into my family’s diet. It’s just a good thing to do. So, anyway, his dish is the perfect meal for all that. I make it once a week. It’s simple, healthy and it’s a winner with the family every time! Hope you enjoy it too:

Southwest Salad

Ingredients:
Romain Lettuce 2-3 hearts
1/2-3/4 cup Thousand Island Dressing
2-3 Roma Tomatoes
1 Can (15 oz.) Black Beans
1 Can (2.25 oz.) Sliced Black Olives
Approx. 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
Approx. 1 1/2 Cups Tortilla Chips

Directions:
Rinse lettuce well
Chop lettuce and throw into big bowl
Pour dressing over lettuce and toss/mix
Chop tomatoes, add to bowl
Drain and rinse black beans, add to bowl
Drain olives, add to bowl
Add shredded cheddar cheese to bowl
Grab tortilla chips, crush in hands over bowl
Mix it all up and enjoy!

We usually eat this by itself, but if you need a big more substance with it, we suggest Trader Joes Cheddar & Garlic Sourdough Bread.
