I love my name and am indeed celebrating it. I hope you are celebrating yours too!

Since 2004, I have been meeting (virtually) many other people with the name Karlyn and have been introducing them through my “Calling All Karlyns” page. It’s so much fun meeting other people with my same unique name. They come from all over the world, most are female and have all sorts of careers. It’s been really interesting to me, to learn how they got their Karlyn name. I have found, through the years, that a lot of my fellow karlyns got their name as a derivative of a similar name – like Karl or Carlin. I have an aunt named Carolyn, but my mother told me she saw the unique spelling of the name Karlyn in a newspaper one day and knew it was the name for me.

I’ve seen a couple of different “meanings” for the name Karlyn. From Man to Womanly, Little to Beautiful. I’m sure the reason for these varieties is simply based on whatever original name derivative that particular article chose to follow.. I don’t put a whole lot of stock into name meanings anyway. It’s just fun to look them up some times. Some names, as you know, go way way back. How far back does your name go?

In a few days, I will be visiting Raleigh Studios in Hollywood to meet my new friend – Author and Designer, Greg LaVoi. Greg generously extended an invitation to visit him at the studio where he currently designs for Kyra Sedgwick and other top talents. Unlike Greg and my grand-aunt Irene Lentz – who designed for some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities and motion pictures of the classic Hollywood era; I’m pretty far removed from the fashion world. My personal relationship with fashion consists of making sure my clothes match and above all – are comfy! However; I do greatly admire and respect the work of Irene and look forward to seeing the collection of vintage Irene suits and dresses Greg has collected at the studio. How fun!

I wanted to share my new desktop wallpaper with you. Pretty, isn’t it? It’s a photo by John Carey – fiftyfootshadows.net. It’s usually one of John’s newest photos that decorate at least one of my home computers. I’m a big fan of his photography.

He just posted some new spring photos. They are beautiful. Check out “A Taste of Spring” to see all of them. He makes them available for us to enjoy for personal use, as wallpaper, and the zip file includes versions for mac, ipad and iphone users also.

To get these to work using your keyboard, you need to press the left ALT key, and then use the number pad on the right of your keyboard.. not the numbers along the top. For laptop users, you will need to do the same, but you’ll also press and hold Fn key along with the ALT key (then the number/s).
