Calling all Karlyns
After you meet the Karlyns here, see below on how to get you or your Karlyn included!
11-13-11 Meet Karlyn Jensen McNeely: “Glad to find some Karlyns! I was born in 1971 in the Chicago area. My name came from the sister of one of my dad’s childhood friends. She was a Karlyn and he always liked the name. Like all Karlyn’s I have had a unique life. I have taught English to children in Taiwan, been an editor/proofreader, graphic designer, marketing coordinator, project manager, massage therapist, Reiki Master and more. I have worked for a cultural exchange organization and a flight school. I’ve had a ride in a P-51, a BT-13, and a Helio Courier (rare airplanes). I’ve traveled to more than 22 countries. I am an artist. I work with pottery, glass and fiber. I’ve spent my entire life seeking spiritual knowledge and intend to go to seminary. I am 12 years older than my husband. We are very happy and he was worth the wait. I have never met another Karlyn.”
10-17-11 Meet Karlyn Wang: “Hi, greetings from Singapore. I am not born a Karlyn since parents only gave me a Chinese name. I decided to give myself an English name when I started working. Heard the name on TV and love the sound but not sure about spelling. Started with Carlyn but later changed the ’C’ to ’K’ when I met the man of my life, Kelvin. Now I have a bunch of Ks at home. Karlyn, Kelvin, Krystal, Keith, Kandyce. Nice to have met all of you!”
5-5-11 Meet Karlyn Herrer: “Anchorage, Alaska – my name is Karlyn Herrera, I am 48 years old. My father named me after a girl he knew in high school because the name was so different. Her name was spelled, Carlin, and he wanted it to be really different, hence the spelling as Karlyn. I was thrilled to find this site, because like so many who have posted here, I have never seen my name spelled the same, and I always get “how unique and pretty the name is” from others who have also never seen or heard it.”
4-19-11 Meet Karlyn L.: “I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado. … I love being Karlyn! I love to draw, play my violin, act, sing, dance, and write. I am home schooled but am not a homeschooler (there is a difference)! For some of you who don’t know, the name Karlyn means “little champ”. My parents named me that after my mom was miraculously healed of Placenta previa a few weeks before I was born!”
2-17-11 Meet Karlyn F – “Hi! I was born in 1978. My parents got my name from George Carlin and changed the spelling to make it a little more feminine. I think I’ve met or heard of at least 3 other Karlyn’s. Karlyn may not be that uncommon but my brother’s name, Braden is getting pretty popular these days”.
9-27-10 Meet Karlyn G (So.CA) – “Wow….so many Karlyns! I have NEVER met anyone with my name, and Im 42! I went to middle school with a Kurt Karlin but that was as close as I’ve come. A couple of years ago on the show “The Amazing Race” there was a women named Karlyn and I couldn’t believe it! That was the first time I had EVER seen anyone with that name! I love my name, always have. People do always read it as Carolyn which I always correct but take in stride. My husband and my best friend since I was 12 calls me Karly. My daughter Zoey found this site looking up her name for homework and then she typed my name in and came across this! Well I quickly told her to move over and let me read this! What a trip!! I thought I was the only one! I love having such a unique name as I know everyone on this page does!!”
10-29-09 Meet Karlyn Lothery – “This is Karlyn. I’ve actually met three Karlyns in my life, with our spelling. I always want to know if other people spellcheck their names, subconsciously, and call them Caralyn, or Kathryn? How hard is it to say our name when it’s phonetically spelled?
Anyway, I’m a communication coach in Washington, DC, and a member of the adjunct faculty at Georgetown University. I work with executives, sports figures, and health professionals on being better public speakers, more effective in media interviews, more persuasive leaders, and more effective speech writers. I’ve been in business for myself for a year, but have 15 years of television, media and public relations experience. I took a four year break from PR and shifted to diversity, and now I put them all together.
I love that you’re connecting Karlyns. I enjoyed reading about all of us!”
9-7-09 Meet Karlyn Wood – “I have noticed that most of the Karlyns on this interesting Web site are women. I am a male with this unusual name and have believed that I was the only one. My parents knew a dentist’s son whose name was Carlin. They liked the name but decided to spell it Karlyn. I am a retired college professor from the SUNY/College at Old Westbury where I chaired and taught in the School of Education. I have a book on the interdisciplinary instructional approach, the fourth edition of which was published in July 2009 by Pearson/Allyn & Bacon.”
9-4-08 Meet Karlyn Hardman – “I knew there were other Karlyns but not so many!! I’ve met two other girls who spell it the same way and a few who have different spellings; I met a guy once who’s first name was Karlin, too! That was wierd. ;) My mom made up my name by combining the names of her two best friends growing up, Karen and Lynn. I’m 25, married to an amazing man named Kevin and we live in Washington state with our dog, cat, and lots of pretty fishies. I’m a photographer with my own business www.andaphotography.com and my husband is a medical massage therapist, also with his own business. I haven’t ever heard of other definitions for our name… it really depends on how your parents came up with the name, so I guess it’s not surprising that there are so many. My mother meant mine to mean “pure and refreshing.” I’ve always loved having an unusual name!
P.S. I once found a mug stand at a fair that claimed to have every name in the world in there somewhere; naturally, I laughed and said, “I bet they don’t have mine” but sure enough – they did!!”
9-4-08 Meet Karlyn’s Mom, Beth – “I’m amazed at how many Karlyn’s out there that have found this site! Wow. We thought we invented it in 1983 for our daughter’s name…oh..wait… we did! LOL! :) We just didn’t know that others had “invented” it, too! It was fun to read through the entries to see how long ago the name Karlyn was given. Our daughter is named after two dear friends: Karen, my college roomate, a fellow O.T., and a gracious and compassionate Christian woman. And, Lynn, who was a sweet devoted Christian young lady who had a profound impact on my life during high school. We decided that her name’s meaning was a combination of the meanings of Karen and Lynn. Together with her middle name of Beth, her name means “Pure and Refreshing Abiding Place of God”. We did meet another family in Bothell, Wa., once with a toddler named Karlyn, when ours was a toddler too. There was a delightful gift store in Centreville, VA., near the above-mentioned Karen’s house called “Karlyn Cottage” that we enjoyed visiting, too. This was a fun site that was linked to on andaphotography.com, Karlyn’s photography website.”
8-25-08 Meet Karlyn Ann – “hi! my name is Karlyn too! I’m 21 years old from the Philippines and i am currently a 2nd year law student. glad i found ur site! :)”
8-22-08 Meet Karlyn Gordon – “I was searching for myspace things to add, showing the many faces of Karlyn.. and stumbled upon this site. I too am very into many different things.. I love writing, reading and music. I am going to get married in April 2009! If you’d like to get to know me more, myspace me! www.myspace.com/karlynforlife”
8-9-08 Meet Karlyn Geiger – “My husband just found your website and I too never knew anyone with my name and have loved it. My mom had heard of a girl in her classroom with the name and put it on a short list for my dad to choose from. He chose it and I’m glad he did. I was born in 1974 in CT & I’m adopted. I have 3 little ones of my own now, Tate 4, Lydia almost 3 and Gabe almost 1 and an amazing and godly husband. We are in full time college ministry and work at Penn State. It’s fun to see all of you others too!”
11-30-07 Meet Karlyn C. – “Hi there – I’m Karlyn – born 1958 in California. We thought my dad made up the name – there are three girls in our family and we all have lyn in our name. There’s a J (Jolyn), a K (Karlyn) and an L (Lynnette). I’ve met a few Karlyn’s over the years – and figured there must be more out there when all the email addresses with Karlyn were taken. I still live in California, run an internet company designed to help families with emergency preparation and planning (www.axcesspoints.com). Send me an email and I’ll give you a code that will allow you and your family to use our services free of charge!”
8-5-07 Meet Karlyn S. – “I have a 3 year old daughter named Karlyn, so I too, wanted to see how many others were out there. Some people think it’s just another trendy, made-up, K name. We all know that’s not true.”
1-5-07 Meet Karlyn M. – “WOWEE!! What an incredible find this is! I honestly thought there was no other kid on the planet with my uniquely UNUSUAL name (NOT Carolyn but pronounced Carlin, like the comic!). My parents thought they were being so clever & different! :o) HAPPY TO MEET ALL OF YOU WONDERFUL AND AMAZING INDIVIDUALS!! I am Karlyn M., born in a place called Wichita, KS back in 1969. I studied Chemistry & Spanish, went to med school & dropped out, and now have a job working for the government. I am married to a wonderful guy & we’re blessed with two beautiful boys (ages 3 and 8 months!). Who knew that being home on sick leave would be so enlightening?! Glad to know you’re all out there!!”
7-25-06 Meet Karlyn Mahnken – “I live in Riverside, CA, born and raised. I was named after a Karlyn my mom tought during Sunday School. She liked the name and decided to use it. I am a mom of thee kids, who are all currently under three (one set of twins). I found this web site when I noticed another freecycler named Karlyn. My site is at www.heapsclan.com.”
7-20-06 Meet Karlyn Kucans – “Saline, Michigan – I am just blown away by all the other Karlyns there are throughout the world. Like all the other Karlyns I always thought I was the only one! I am sure that all of us Karlyns will agree though that even though no one gets our name right, everyone comments on how nice the name is. Of course I had to marry a Kucans which sounds very funny with Karlyn! Nice to finally feel “normal” with my name!”
5-11-06 Meet Karlyn Cynthia Solis – “Florida, born 1981-WOW, I am floored, I swear, I really, truly thought that I was the one and only!!! I was going to be Karly Lynn, after Carly Simon and my Aunt Karla, but my mom decided against that and combined the two and gave me my Aunt Cindy’s name as my middle name!! It seems very surreal to see other people with MY name, I guess because it is not as common as Rebecca or Stephanie!!! I have been called everthing-Karen, Carolyn, Kathryn, Carmen……..but, I have always taken that in stride!! It is wonderful to find others with the same name, I was just playing on the internet and decided to google my name-I was blown away!! It is so nice to read everyones stories and find out a little bit of information from “Karlyn’s” all over the world!!”
10-27-05 Meet Karlyn – “What a wonderful surprise to find so many Karlyn’s!! I truly believed I was the only one, as so many of you did.
I live on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. My father was in the armed forces and traveled a lot. My Mom picked up the name from someone in a country overseas.I love it’s uniqueness now that I am older. Good Luck to you all on this, your life’s journey. And thank-you Karlyn (dotcom) for this website..”
10-17-05 Meet Karlyn Waskiewicz – “Hi – What an awesome website. I never thought I’d see so many “Karlyn’s” in one place. Actually, I have never met anyone with our unique name. I am 40 something and live in Canterbury, Connecticut. My husband is Corky and my daughter is Courtney. I look forward to reading of more “Karlyn’s” on you website!!”
9-6-05 Meet Karlyn Smith Spencer – “I have only met one person with my name and it really shocked me. I was 40 at the time. I am so happy to learn that there are so many of us. We should have a convention of Karlyns.”

6-25-05 Meet Karlyn Foster – “I never knew that there was this many karlyn’s in the world!!! I thought I was the only one. My name came after this girl named Carlin. Some people can’t say my name cause they think it is hard. Do you get that alot? I do.”

I have never met another Karlyn, but I have met a Carlin in Alaska. Although this last summer I met a man with the last name Karlin. It is strange. I get called carolin, karly, Karen, all the wrong names as well. It has never bothered me too much though, I guess I am just used to it. It was nice to read about everyone else.”
4-26-05 Meet Karlyn A. – “Hi there! I’m Karlyn Alcala, Singapore. But my original hometown is the beautiful pearl of the pacific, the Philippines. Since grade school to college I never had a classmate who has the same name as mine, or even people I have dealt with or until now. I’ve always thought that my name is very unique co’z it was the combination of my parent’s first names, Carlito and Lyne, they just replaced C with K. I too had experiences of people mispronouncing my name, of course I always correct them! Glad to have found this site coz even when i look on meaning of names, i cant see “Karlyn” there. I’m a computer science graduate and pursuing a diploma in human resources. I’m married to a great man and got a handsome son. If you want to know my inner thougths, just visit http://thoughtsoften.blogs.friendster.com/my_blog/”
4-22-05 Meet Karlyn B. ~ “Heyy! I am always on the computer and I don’t know why, but I decided to google search my name “Karlyn” I had noo idea there were soo many out there, as did everyone else. I too get my name mispronounced alot. When my mother was pregnant with me, shortly after her father died, he came to her in a dream. He said “Name your daughter Karlyn.” She was confused, but got to thinking about it. His name was Karl, and my mom’s middle name was Lynn. So, put them both together and get Karlyn! I also enjoy drawing alot. Faces particularly. I thought it was neat that some other Karlyns on this site enjoy art as well! Well, thanks for giving me the opportunity to share my story. I think your site is very interesting and a very good idea! Keep it up!”
3-29-05 Meet Karlyn H ~ “My 7 year old daughter, Karlyn, and I were just discussing websites this morning and she wanted me to put her name in a search engine to see what popped up. WOW!!! we were soooo surprised to find this website! As with everyone else, we thought we had the only Karlyn in the world (Especially spelled the same way)!!! We had originally planned to spell it as “Carlyn” but all the nurses in the nursery kept calling her “Carolyn”. So in an effort to prevent this in the future we changed it to the current spelling. Still today, everyone mispronounces her name (calling her “Carolyn”). How neat that you created this website just for the Karlyns of the world!! Now she can see that she’s not the only Karlyn out there and that she truly has a beautiful and unique name!”
3-24-05 Meet Karlyn Mason ~ “I had no idea so many people were named Karlyn! My parents probably thought they were the first ones to think of it. I have a lot of trouble with people mispronouncing “Karlyn” too…mostly people want to say it like “Carolyn.” Pretty much everyone calls me Karli, though. I live in New Hampshire, but I will be studying music at the University of Maryland next fall.”
2-22-05 Meet Karlyn Francis ~ “Dallas Texas – I was born in 1963. My Father was in the Navy and my parents lived on base next to a family that had a little girl named Karlyn. My parents were not sure how she spelled it, but liked the name very much and knew they would name one of their girl’s “Karlyn”. I have always felt special because of my name, there is just something about it. I have only met one other Karlyn, and I worked with her at a bank here in Dallas. I also get very aggravated when my name is mispronounced. I get called Carla, Carmen, and Carloyn. My family calls me Karlie. I currently work in the Criminal Justice Field. I have never heard of the french, latin or German origins of the name but i do know that in Scottish gaelic, when spelt ‘carlin’, means witch or ‘little witch’. I am a wiccan so am not offended but very smitten with my name. I’m still in high school and plan to become a photographer or writer, or both! We should write to souvenir companies and tell them to print our name, it’s more common than they think!”

I have completed my master’s degree in psychology and am working at Arkansas Rehabilitation Services as a Psychological Examiner. I am getting married December 4, 2004 to a wonderful man who is smart, funny, and creative! He also plays guitar in a local band. My mother told me that she combined parts of both her and my fathers middle names to make my name. (Karen and Lyn — Kar+lyn). I too, have struggled with never getting to buy cute pencils and stickers with my name printed…but always appreciated the fact that I was an “original”. However, as time has progressed, I’ve realized I’m definitely not alone with this “original” name!”
